Energy Output

Kiln-dried mixed hardwood logs are an outstandingly energy-efficient fuel source, with the capacity to produce an average heat output of up to 4.30 kWh/kg. Our kiln-dried wood maintains a moisture content ranging from 10% to 15%, significantly lower than the Government's recommended limit of 25%. Additionally, it generates minimal ash content, leaving less than 1% residue behind.

What is in a Mixed crate?

A mixed crate is filled with a blend of our kiln-dried hardwood species - typically birch with oak and ash - rather than a single species. Every log is dried to the same 10-15% moisture standard, so the burn quality is identical to our single-species crates. The blend simply gives you a lower price per crate than straight oak or straight birch.

Energy Comparison - Hardwood vs Softwood

Kiln-dried wood releases a similar amount of energy per kilogram whatever the species - around 4.3 kWh/kg at 10-15% moisture. What differs between species is density: how many kilos fit into the same space. That is why a hardwood crate delivers more heat than a softwood crate of exactly the same size.
