The word sustainable is a big buzz word right now. It signifies reinventing and using the resources that we have in a responsible way. Sustainable gardening involves gardening techniques that do not destroy the environment but can preserve it. Various ways to garden sustainably include :

Composting : The use of compost when planting or in your garden beds can help keep the moisture in the soil, protect your plants from temperature changes as well as fuelling it with a lot of nutrients.

- Companion planting: This is planting two or more plants near each other for pest control and more produce. Planting two plants together help one another to grow. Companion planting helps to keep pests away and maintain a healthy soil. Some plants when grown together make the other taste better i.e. tomatoes taste better when planted beside  basil.

-Minimising: Minimise your use of powered tools in your garden such as mowers, blowers. The best alternative would be to use energy efficient products or a hand trowel. It is also important to reduce your purchase or completely eliminate your purchase of bug spray or synthetic fertilise as compost will definitely help to feed your plants.

These are just some of the many ways that you can keep your garden environmentally friendly.
